He said the nation can only uphold peace by maintaining Christian values using the preachings from his favourite phrase: One Zambia One Nation. Dr Kaunda said that the Biblical values ‘love your neighbour as you love yourself and do unto others as you would love them to do unto you’ must be put into the practice.
All these have been said at his residence when Dr. Rajan Mahtani, the chairman of Mahtani Group of Companies, as well as his management team joined the former President to celebrate his 90th birthday. Mohini, the mother of Rajan Mahtani was also present at the event in celebrating the President’s birthday. The lady also turned ninety on the month of April.
Dr Kaunda asked the Zambians to pray for one another saying that the prayer was anchor of peace irrespective of the church (place of worship) one went to. He said, “Let us continue to love one another, to remember the old Christian values. Old phrases if we throw them away, we will not have this peace we have upheld due to these values, love God with all your soul, mind and let us all understand the deep thinking of God’s love for each other.”
He even suggested Dr Rajan Mahtani as well as his team to stick to the Christian principles and the Biblical teachings as that had flourished his business. He also expressed his love for his late wife on this auspicious occasion. He said that he would have loved to spend his 90th birthday with his wife who had died last year. Dr Kaunda also asked all married men to love their wives as he considered them to be one of the most important parts of men’s lives.
Rajan Mahtani said that celebrating the ninetieth birthday was a landmark, which many people may not realize. It was a journey with full of twists and turns. He said the President’s persevering stand for unity had seen the nation to be a place of serenity and peace and a home to all the refugees fleeing wars from the naighbouring countries. Dr Mahtani said, “Anywhere in the world, often the word Zambia is synonymous with KK, two of your remarkable phrases One Zambia One Nation and Tiyende Pamodzi have held the nation of 72 tribes together in unity, especially in a world Africa which has seen divisions and ethnic wars.”
He added, “Your love for God will bring forth fruit in old age; you are bearing fruit in being a model to many generations in the region. Further you’re mentoring, sharing wisdom and counsel to many including leaders and potential leaders is an example of a Godly man whom God blessed with strength.”
